FERPA – The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act – is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It applies to any educational institution that accepts government funding. In short, nearly all schools.
The objectives of this course are:
- Define who has rights under FERPA
- Clarify what records fall under FERPA
- Clarify what records do NOT fall under FERPA
- Define what schools can do when it comes to FERPA compliance and notification of stakeholders
This course is aimed towards to staff members (not families).
