Description

The Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center at The Ohio State University provides the following tips to support your child’s mental health in partnership with their school. First, let your child know they belong in the school community. Talk about school with your child and celebrate what they learn. Encourage extracurricular activities and talk to them about which ones they want to try. Support your child’s relationship with their teacher by asking which teachers they know. Also, ensure their teacher or counselor knows if your child is feeling lonely. Experience family routines together using household routines that promote structure, responsibility, and fun. Celebrate and be involved in your child’s school traditions. Another tip is supporting behaviors that build success and well-being. This can be done by discussing healthy sleeping habits and encouraging activities that build focus and self-control. Finally, continue to build good relationships at home and have fun together. Talk to your child daily about school, friends, and more.
